New build home Design Center Upgrades? Which ones improve the homes value?

I think I got a great deal on a new build home. Now it’s time for the landscape, wiring, and design center appointments. I’m cool in all areas except the design center. Light fixtures, faucets, etc, I can do myself. Is it smart to upgrade the counter tops, cabinets, sinks, etc (major items)? The costs of these items are rolled into the price of the home at closing. OR should I wait until my finances permit and do them myself? The only thing I’m sure on upgrading is the carpet pad.

Kitchen and bath upgrades (especially master bath) are key resale selling points. Also crown molding in the primary living areas is a big plus. Good luck.

The cheapest house possible to build would likely be a pre-fab home. You can do a search for pre-fab’s on-line. They basically ship you the supplies, and you find a builder to put it together. Though you would still need an estimate from the builder, which would likely triple the cost of the house.

You can’t just ask a builder to build you the cheapest house possible. You could easily end up with a 5 X 5 dog house!!You need to get several bids. You need to give the builders some guidelines…square footage, how many bathrooms, etc. And then you get estimates from several builders to give you the best bid. However, keep in mind, the lowest bid may not be the best, as many builders might take short-cuts and you would be left with a cheap house that was not only inexpensive, but poorly made, as well.

Find a house plan first. Talk to several builders. And then you can make the decisions on finishing the interior, such as cabinetry, bathroom appliances, etc. As that is likely where you will save the money.

So I have a concrete slab attached to the back of my house that is in extremely bad shape (cracked, lifted). I want to add deck off the back of my house but to do so I have to remove the concrete first. What are my options after removing the concrete to keep water out of my basement since the concrete is currently keeping the water from soaking into the ground and getting in the basement. Also, what is the best process at removing the concrete and also disposing of it.

Since your existing concrete is cracked and lifted, putting down a heavy plastic sheet probably would be a good or better than the existing concrete.

If possible you might want to slope the soil aways from the house to aid the drainage.

You might also cosider a shallow french drain to help with any water that gets near the foundation.
